Deep in the heart of Nåsten with my rival Rosstopher, I am getting cold. The horizontal snow is blinding, the tree branches are dumping more snow on me, and each single-contour hilltop feels like the vertical wall of backbana. We come out to the ride where the 17km course turns south for a long loop around Rödmossen, and the 12km course turns north. I stop and cast a longing look north. I then look at Ross, cold and tired too.
"Are we going to do this whole thing?", I say.
"Of course we are", he replies.
No more hesitation, and we turn south. And I've had my first "precious moment."
After stage 2, Boris leads the American Challenge by 51 points.
